Privacy Policy

Placefolio ("we," "our," or "the app") is a privacy-first, offline home inventory management system. Placefolio does not run a cloud service and does not upload your inventory to our servers. Your data stays local unless you choose to enable Google Drive backup (Android) or iCloud backup (iOS). There are no cloud accounts unless you opt into that feature, no in-app analytics SDKs, and we do not sell your data.

Key privacy principles

  • Your data stays on your device.
  • No tracking. No analytics SDKs, no ad identifiers.
  • No cloud accounts by default. You control backups and exports while optionally enabling Google Drive backups (Android) or iCloud backups (iOS).
  • Optional local sync. If enabled, sync happens only on your local network.

Scope

This policy covers the Placefolio apps (Android, iOS, and Windows) and this website. If you install or purchase Placefolio through a platform storefront (for example, Google Play, the Apple App Store, or the Microsoft Store), that storefront may also collect and process information under its own privacy policy.

What data Placefolio stores

Placefolio stores the following data locally on your device in a SQLite database:

  • Box and item names you create
  • Organization labels (sites, rooms, locations)
  • Photos you take or attach to boxes/items
  • Documents you attach (receipts, warranties, insurance photos)
  • Borrower names or contact details (if you use loan tracking)
  • Financial values (purchase prices, estimated values) if you enter them
  • Dates (warranty, expiration, reminders, loan due dates) if you enter them
  • Backup preferences, including Google Drive OAuth tokens on Android and iCloud backup configuration on iOS when you enable those optional features; these remain on your device and are never shared with us.

What Placefolio does not do

  • We do not collect in-app analytics or usage telemetry.
  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not share your inventory content with third parties.
  • We do not require account creation.
  • We do not upload your inventory to our servers.

Tracking disclosure (App Store / Play Store)

Placefolio does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. We do not use advertising SDKs, and we do not build advertising profiles. Because Placefolio does not perform cross-app tracking, it does not use Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt.

Data you may share with us

If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to share (for example, your email address, message content, and any screenshots or files you attach). We use this information only to respond and provide support.

Platform services (Google Play, Apple App Store, Microsoft Store)

If you download, update, or make a purchase, your device communicates with the applicable storefront provider (for example, Google Play or Apple App Store). We do not receive your payment card details, but we may receive purchase status or entitlement information needed to unlock features.

Website shop purchases (PayPal)

If you buy physical products from the Placefolio Shop page, checkout is hosted by PayPal. PayPal processes your payment information under PayPal's own privacy policy and terms. We do not receive your full payment card number.

We may receive order details needed to fulfill and support the purchase, such as your name, email address, shipping address, selected product, transaction status, and any messages you send in connection with the order.

Permissions (Android and iOS)

Placefolio requests permissions only to support features you choose to use. The core feature set is the same on Android and iOS; permission names and prompts can vary by operating system.

  • Camera: Scan QR codes and barcodes; take photos of items and boxes.
  • Photos / Files: Attach existing photos/documents and export backups to locations you choose.
  • NFC: Read NFC tags attached to boxes (optional, where supported).
  • Bluetooth: Detect Bluetooth beacons for item finding (optional).
  • Location: Required on Android for Bluetooth scanning. Placefolio does not use location data for tracking.
  • Local Network / Internet: Used for optional local Wi-Fi sync with your Windows PC on your network, and for platform storefront features such as downloading updates and processing purchases.
  • Notifications: Show alerts for reminders, expirations, low quantities, and loan due dates (if you enable these features).

Local sync (Android/iOS ↔ Windows)

Placefolio can optionally sync between your Android or iOS device and Windows PC on the same local network. Sync is intended for private LAN use.

  • Sync happens only on your local network (LAN/Wi-Fi).
  • Sync can be encrypted in transit.
  • Optional PIN protection may be available depending on your setup.

Backups and exports

Placefolio supports exporting your data (for example, to a ZIP backup). You choose where to store backups (Google Drive, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, NAS, etc.). Placefolio does not run a cloud service and does not receive your backups. If you choose to store or share backups using third-party services, their privacy practices apply to that storage or transfer.

On Android, you may optionally link a Google account so Placefolio automatically uploads each new ZIP export to a Drive folder you specify. Linking uses Google's OAuth consent flow; Placefolio stores the resulting access token on your device only for those uploads and does not transmit it to our servers or use it for other purposes. On iOS, you may choose iCloud backup and manage those files through your Apple account and iCloud settings.

Security

Placefolio stores your inventory in app storage on your device. Access is restricted by your device and operating system security features (for example, app sandboxing and device lock). If you enable local sync, we recommend using encryption-in-transit and any available PIN protection.

Data retention and deletion

  • Your data remains on your device until you delete it from within the app.
  • You can remove all data by uninstalling Placefolio (local data is deleted by the operating system).
  • Support emails are retained only as long as needed to respond and maintain a record of the support conversation.

Children’s privacy

Placefolio is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes to the app or legal requirements. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date on this page.
